Cantus for Violin
Boston Series
1969/1977; 19:49 min

Play

Cantus is based on output from Koenig's Project Two, a program requiring elaborate planning. The program uses the composer's top-down design to deliver material for individual sections. Their final sequencing in an overall musical form is the composer's task.

Cantus consists of a sequence of 25 sections following each other in an order decided upon after a great deal of experimentation. The performance heard is that by M. Hölschky, Stuttgart, Germany, playing during a concert at Studio der Landesgirokasse in 1981.
